Whitewater Rafting I & II

090612 Saturday

My whitewater rafting craze began when Charis & Jt decided to go for the trip and I managed to switch my offday with Mike. I've always wanted to try whitewater rafting but we were worried about the weather as it was forecast to be only arnd 9 deg celcius. In the end we decided to go and imagined freezing together (brrrr :S). This trip was at Yellowstone River and we had to drive quite a distance to Gardiner. I really thank God as it was not as cold as expected (super glad the forecast was wrong, at least for the first half of the day). It was also a good timing to go as the water level was higher than it would be later in the summer. This trip was really quite an adventure as ALL of us on our raft fell into the water at a very unexpected spot arnd 15 mins into the ride. Even the raft guide says it's her first time in 3 summers that people fell off at that spot! The wind was super strong so it was freezing after that. I thank God though for the experience, our guide was really good at responding in that emergency situation, getting us all back up in that frenzy. Plus it was a pretty calm river so if we hadnt fall in it might be one boring cruise down the river:P

Electric Peak
The highest point in the Gallatin range within the boundaries of Yellowstone at 10000+ feet. The peak always attracts lightnings due to the high content of iron in the soil.

Photos taken by the photographer :)
What I really like about rafting down Yellowstone River is the scenery on all sides. The pictures can't capture the valleys and mountains all around but they were really a beauty. It's really a peaceful place too & there were vacation homes on the banks and in the mountains that overlook the river. What a great sight to wake up to in the morning:) Oh, and thank God for Charis' trusty waterproof camera which survived the capsized with us!

Inspired by my first trip, I decided to go for another one since i'm off on Thursday! This time it was a Class III- IV trip (the previous one was I-II) so I was super looking forward to it! It was down Gallatin River and it proved to be wayyy more exciting!! Thorougly enjoyed myself that day!!! :D

My lovely new friends! Becca, Garrett, Shannon & Jacob. Thank God for them :D
Praying before we start :)
Setting off!
Brad Pitt Rock from the movie A River Runs Through It :P
We were on a slightly smaller raft than the other one which made the trip even more exicting! :D
But the constant amount of (freezing)water in the raft to add weight to it and to allow the circulation of water in and out made our feets numb in no time. Couldnt walk prperly :P Glad we survived it haha. All in all we had a blast that day! What a good way to spend my off-day!

Ending off with homemade Chai Tea ice cream at West Yellowstone. $4 for 4 scoops and big waffle cone! No tax finally cos we were in Montana. Can't wait to go back for the Taco Bus & another much raved ice cream shop!! :)
