Hoover Dam, Route 66, Grand Canyon

060712 Friday

It was a really bright and beautiful day and we were off to the Grand Canyon Sunset Tour by Grand-Adventures.com! It was a long day ahead as we had to drive from Vegas in Nevada to Grand Canyon in Arizona and back, stopping a few times along the way. The tour group was specially kept small (less than ten ppl) and we were picked up at our hotel lobby. First stop was Macs for breakfast, then off to Hoover Dam. Hoover Dam is one of US's largest hydroelectric power facilities and a popular tourist destination. This dam have often been featured in movies too, such as Transformers and the 1978 Spiderman!

Hoover Dam

After visiting the dam we went on our way and stopped by this cute gas station for a break. The name simply cheers me up! Love the blue sky and fluffy clouds too!

Our next stop was the historic Route 66, a really funky place!

Looks familiar?

"John Lassiter, the producer of Cars, spent quite a bit of time here and many of the characters from Cars are based on REAL PEOPLE from Seligman. It's also home to the real Angel of Route 66. There was a time in America when Route 66 was the major thoroughway that connect East to West. It began in Chicago and ended at the Santa Monica Pier. It was decertified and removed from the maps in 1978 when Interstate 40 opened. It took a true Angel to lobby the Arizona government to recertify it as Historic Route 66. Angel's tireless efforts virtually saved the remaining parts from extinction. It was his actions that inspired John Lassiter to write the movie 'Cars'." - http://www.grand-adventures.com/grandcanyonsunset.html

Destination Grand Canyon
Really happy to finally get a chance to visit the place I've read about in the encyclopedia as a child:D
Our tour group :)
Spot our tour guide with the big bagpack filled with lunch for all of us

Evidence that many many years ago water filled the land we were standing on - reminds me of Noah's Ark

Love the colours!
A squirrel enjoying the view too:D

Lunch stop: Arby's sandwich, cheese and crackers and grapes!
My beef sandwich:D

This plant is supposedly an extremely useful plant for the native americans in the past.
 Shuttle Bus

The remaining of Colorado river; imagine what it was like when water level was above the canyon

Off to find a spot to catch the sunset

Sitting near the edge, basking in the remaining rays, the wind is strong and the temperature is dropping

An experience of a lifetime :)
