Zion National Park & Bryce National Park

080712 Sunday
The view from my room in the morning :)

And we're off to another tour again! To two national parks in the state of Utah. Our first stop was Zion National Park which is Utah's first national park, famous for its reddish & tan-coloured sandstone cliffs. One special moment was when our bus drove through this long and narrow tunnel that went through the cliffs and it was pitch black in the tunnel!

Next stop was Bryce Canyon National Park in southwestern Utah
"...in this thirsty land, water has become the prime creator of scenery. Water formed these sedimentary rocks under ancient seas, and water sculptured them as they rose. Water carved the buttes and mesas, chiseled Bryce Canyon into every shape known..." - Peter Farb, Face of North America, 1963

Bryce Canyon is not really a canyon, but is instead an amphitheater of magnificent red rock formations within the high Colorado Plateau

The pillars of rocks are known as Hoodoos, amazing formations formed by frost & rain erosions
It is actually possible to hike all the way down but we didn't have enough time. A steep hike though!

According to a Paiute Indian myth, the coyote turned the animal legend people into rocks because they angered him. The hoodoos really looking like people from this angle!

Dinner at Macs (again haha)

Accommodation for the night was at Best Western View of Lake Powell. The inn was really much better than expected! And like its name says, we woke up to a view of Lake Powell :D
